Poker Table Positions 8 Handed
When playing poker table positions 8 handed, it’s important to choose your position carefully. You have several options, including the early position, the middle position, and the Dealer button. It’s also important to know the dynamics of your table to determine the best strategy. In this article, we will review the early position, the middle position, and the Dealer button.
Early position
There are two distinct poker positions: High Position and Early Position. As the last person to act during every round, the High Position tends to have the best hands, while Early Position players don’t know anything about the other players’ hands. This gives players a greater range of hands to play. Early Position players are generally less likely to be overbet, which is an advantage.
The early poker table position is the smallest amount of money, but it is not the least lucrative position. The button is the most profitable position, followed by the early position and the late position.
Middle position
In an eight-handed poker table, the middle position offers players a moderate positional advantage. The middle player has the opportunity to decide the last action before the flop. After the flop, however, a player in this position will be out of position and will be forced to make decisions with minimal information.
Although there are many advantages to being in the middle position, it can also be a disadvantage. It is often difficult to take advantage of a weak hand in an early position. There are fewer opponents to deal with in this position than in the later positions.
Dealer button
A poker table is set up with a Dealer button in the centre, and each player in that position must wait for the button to pass. This button will move clockwise one position between the beginning and end of each hand. The dealer button can only be pushed by the dealer. It is generally a good idea to leave the button alone, but some poker tables are large enough that it might be necessary to move it. If this is the case, the dealer button should be marked and the player must acknowledge the move.
The Dealer button is also known as the “hot button” for a reason. Players in the button position can use this to steal from their opponents. A button is also a great place for a player to play cards because it allows them to play any two cards they may have. Hijacking is a common occurrence, and players in this position have begun to steal the action of players in earlier seats, and sometimes steal blinds before them.
Lojack
There are three different poker table positions, and one is the Lojack position. As the name suggests, this position is situated between the early position and the late position. It is often confused with the middle position, but Lojack players are expected to remain tight but can afford to play more hands than UTG.
The worst position at the table is the small blind. In this position, the small blind player is required to put in half of the big blind before they see any cards. That is already a pretty steep uphill battle, and the only way to make it up is by raising a wide range when the pot is large enough.
